Guide to Restaurant Booths Dimensions & Shapes

Restaurant Booths

Would you prefer a chair or a booth?
How often have you asked this question? And how many times did the answer come back as "booth, please"? Unless the party is particularly large, the booth is likely the preferred option. This is probably one of the main reasons you’re now considering buying booths for your restaurant.

Standard and Custom Booth Shapes

Before purchasing dining booths for your restaurant, the first step is to determine which type of booth you need and want. On this page, you’ll find a variety of booth options, including both ready-made and custom designs.

Single Booth

Single booths are designed to comfortably seat two people side by side. Typically placed against walls and often paired with double booths, they are a staple in restaurant seating arrangements.

A double booth consists of two single booths with a shared backrest. It comfortably seats two people side by side and two people back to back. Ideal for saving space, double booths are among the most popular seating options in restaurants.

deuce booths

Deuce Booths

Deuce booths are perfect for small or confined spaces. Half the size of regular booths, these booths are ideal for cozy corners and specific interior styles.
bar height booths

Bar Height Booths

Booths aren’t just for regular tables. Bar-height booths are growing in popularity for bars and restaurants, offering a unique focal point in any room.

Dimensions and Spacing Requirements

Once you decide on the booth’s shape, the next step is to calculate how many booths you need and how many you can realistically install in your venue. For standard-shaped booths, this means measuring the length of your wall. Based on the type of booths you choose, you’ll be able to determine how many can fit along that wall. Our easy-to-use, online booth calculator can assist you with this task. Don’t forget to also consider the width of the area and ensure there’s enough room for easy access for both your customers and staff.

This diagram illustrates the recommended spacing requirements for creating a comfortable seating area while optimizing available space:

Restaurant Booths Terminology

Now that the main issues are behind you, all that’s left is to go online, explore various dining booth designs, and choose the one that best complements your restaurant’s décor. You can also use the free 3D booth designer to see how your booths will look in different materials, such as vinyl or fabric. If you need a special upholstery material or want a logo imprinted on the seating, be sure to request any changes to the booth before placing your order.

This covers everything for regularly shaped booths. But what if you don’t want a standard shape? What if you need a corner booth or an L-shaped one? Choosing a custom shape requires more preparation on your part. You’ll need to take additional measurements and ensure they are accurate. After verifying your measurements, you will still need to choose your preferred upholstery and place your order. However, unlike standard booths, you won’t be able to finalize your order online. Instead, you’ll need to call the company or have them contact you directly to provide your measurements and receive a price quote.

To help you navigate this process, we recommend familiarizing yourself with the proper terminology when ordering your restaurant booths:

  • Top & End Caps – These caps cover the sides and top of the booth frame. Upholstered caps are standard, but you can also upgrade to solid wood or laminate caps.
  • Head Roll – An upholstered, padded piece at the top of the booth that adds extra comfort.
  • Logo Placement – If you wish to place a logo on your booth, it will be positioned in the central area of the padded back.
  • Crumb Strip – A 1.5” strip placed between the back of the booth and the seat, designed for easy cleaning.
  • Welt Cord – A strong, durable cord stitched to the sides of the seat for both added strength and style. When measuring the booth's dimensions, be sure to include the top and end caps in both the height and length.

It’s also important to remember that custom-made restaurant booths take longer to produce and ship. Be sure to place your order well in advance.

To summarize, here’s a quick guide on how to order your restaurant booths:

  • Decide on the shape of the booths: single, double, wall bench, or custom-made.
  • Measure the available space and calculate how many booths can fit comfortably.
  • Visit the website and choose the upholstery that best complements your décor.
  • Place your order, ensuring that all your contact information is accurate, especially if you’re ordering custom booths or upholstery.
  • Order your booths well in advance to avoid last-minute rushes.

Enjoy your new restaurant booths!
